TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 1998

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 8:50 o’clock a.m., this day, in room

253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Pat O'Brien, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Deepak Obhrai, Suzanne Tremblay, Wendy Lill and Mark Muise.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

Participants: Round Table on the Arts: Eddy Bayens, Musician; Richard Bradshaw, General Director, Canadian Opera Company; Martin Bragg, Managing Director & Producer, The Canadian Stage Company; Myrna Kostash, Author; Carol Shields, Author; Jean-Michel Sivry, Visual Artist and Valerie Wilder, Executive Director, National Ballet of Canada. Round Table on Heritage: Bill Barkley, Chief Executive Officer, Royal British Columbia Museum; Diane Charland, Manager, Document and Archives, City of Montreal and President, Canadian Council of Archives; Robert Janes, President and Chief Executive Officer, Glenbow Museum, Alberta; François Lachapelle, Director General, "Corporation du musée régional de Rimouski"; Clyde McNeil, Director, Caribbean Cultural Workshop; Bernard Riordon, Director, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia; Candace Stevenson, Executive Director, Nova Scotia Museum and Jeanne Mance Cormier, Conservator, "Musée acadien de l'Université de Moncton", New Brunswick.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed the consideration of the Canadian Cultural Study and proceeded to host the Parliamentary Forum on Canadian Culture, International Trade and Technology in the year 2000.

The Chair made opening remarks.

The members and participants proceeded to a round table discussion on the Arts.

At 10: 34 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.
