TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1997

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 371 West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, John Godfrey, Joe Jordan, Dennis Mills, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Eric Lowther, Deepak Obhrai, Caroline St-Hilaire, Suzanne Tremblay, Wendy Lill and Mark Muise.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

Appearing: The Honourable Hedy Fry, Secretary of State, Multiculturalism and Status of Women.

Witnesses: Florence Ievers, Coordinator, Status of Women; Norman Moyer, Assistant Deputy Minister, Citizenship and Canadian Identity and Erica Claus, Director, Multiculturalism Program.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Overview of the Multiculturalism and Status of Women.

The Honourable Hedy Fry made an opening statement and answered questions.

Jim Abbott gave notice of a motion regarding the National Capital Commission.

Wendy Lill gave notice of a motion to invite witnesses on the topic of MAI.

At 10 h 55 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
