THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 1998
The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:08 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Dennis Mills, Pat O'Brien, Jim Abbott, Suzanne Tremblay, Wendy Lill and Mark Muise.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC): Françoise Bertrand, Chairperson; Laura Talbot-Allan, Secretary General and Chief Operating Officer; Susan Baldwin, Executive Director, Broadcasting; Anne-Marie Desroches, Manager, French Language Broadcasting, Broadcast Planning; Jean-Pierre Blais, Senior Legal Council and Wayne Charman.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on Canadian Culture.
Françoise Bertrand made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
Mark Muise proposed to move,--That, during its study of Bill C-38, at second reading, the Committee invite witnesses representing a broad spectrum of views to appear before it.
At 12:55 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
