Meeting No. 56

Thursday, November 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Raymond Lavigne, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Ted McWhinney, Dennis Mills, Mark Muise and Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mollie Dunsmuir, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Magazine Publishers Association: François de Gaspé Beaubien, Chairperson, Political Affairs Committee (CMPA) and President of Télémédia Publishing; Michael Rae, Chairman of the Board; John Tory, President, Rogers Communications, Maclean Hunter Publishing Association; Rick Salutin, Freelance writer and Anne McCaskill, Trade Consultant.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, November 3, 1998, a study of Bill C-55, An Act respecting advertising services supplied by foreign periodical publishers.

François de Gaspé Beaubien made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:46 p.m., the Committee proceeded to consider its future business in camera.

At 1:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
