MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
Meeting No. 10

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1997

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:36 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 269 West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, John Godfrey, Dennis Mills, Pat O'Brien, Jim Abbott, Caroline St-Hilaire, Suzanne Tremblay, Wendy Lill and Mark Muise.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

Witness: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: John Gero, Director General, Trade Policy Bureau II.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Consideration of the Canadian Culture Study.

John Gero made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:52 o'clock p.m., the sitting adjourned.

At 5:55 o'clock p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed,--That Keith Kelly, Executive Director, Conference of the Arts accompanied by Gary T. Neil, former Head of CTRA and Ivan Bernier, Professor at Laval, University, be invited to appear on December 9, 1997, and that a panel on book publishing be held on December 10, 1997.

By unanimous consent, the Committee waived the 24 hour notice for motions.

ORDERED,--That the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage recommend that the Government of Canada maintain its level of funding for the Canada Television Cable Production Fund at least at the 1997 level; and

--That the Chair report the said resolution with a preamble to the House.

At 5:05 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
