THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1997


The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:14 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Sarmite Bulte, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Deepak Obhrai, Caroline St-Hilaire and Suzanne Tremblay.

Acting Members present: Gurbax Malhi for Mauril Bélanger.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Canadian Heritage: Michael Wernick, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Management; and Bill Peters, Assistant Deputy Minister, Arts and Heritage.

Michael Wernick made opening statement and, with Bill Peters, answered questions.

At 1:00 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
