Thursday, November 19, 1998
The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Raymond Lavigne, Clifford Lincoln, Eric Lowther, Ted McWhinney, Dennis Mills and Mark Muise.
Acting Members present: Ivan Grose for Joe Jordan and Benoît Sauvageau for Suzanne Tremblay.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mollie Dunsmuir and Grant Purves, Researchers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Business Press: Terry Malden, Chairperson (CBP) and Vice-President of Maclean-Hunter Publishing; Michael Atkins, Chair, Legislative Affairs and Lilia Lozinzki, Publisher, Elm Street Magazine, Partner, Multi-Vision Publishing.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, November 3, 1998, the Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference to the study of Bill C-55, Foreign Publishers Advertising Services Act.

On Clause 1
Terry Malden made an opening statement and, with other witnesses, answered questions.
It was agreed,--That, in response to the letter by Clifford Sosnow of Lang Michener, Barristers & Solicitors, on behalf of senior representatives of the advertising agency industry in Canada, dated November 18, 1998, November 24 or 25, 1998 be made available for the purposes of appearing before the Committee on Bill C-55, Foreign Publishers Advertising Services Act.
At 12:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
