MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 3)

Tuesday, October 28, 1997

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:15 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 371 West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Paul Bonwick, Dennis Mills, Pat O'Brien, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Eric Lowther, Deepak Obhrai and Mark Muise.

Acting Members present: Ian Murray for Pat O'Brien and John O'Reilly for Joe Jordan.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.


It was agreed, That the Committee invite the following:

- the Honourable Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage;
- the Honourable Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State for Parks; and
- the Honourable Hedy Fry, Minister of State for Multiculturalsim and Status of Women;

and

--That one meeting be held on the topics of Sports, and two meetings be held on the topic of Canadian culture; and

--That the meetings be held pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) in order to ensure a wider scope.

It was agreed, That the Dennis Mills prepare a proposal for the Committee on the topic of a sub-committee on sports.

It was agreed, that on the topic of Canadian culture the researchers prepare an outline of an approach for consideration by the Committee consisting of panels, experts and round tables.


At 10:30 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
