Meeting No. 91

Thursday, April 22, 1999

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:51 a.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Maurice Dumas, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Mark Muise, Caroline St-Hilaire.

Acting Member present: John O'Reilly for Dennis Mills.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Joe Jackson, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Government of Nunavut: Peter Ernerk, Deputy Minister, Culture, Language, Elders & Youth. From the As Individual: Elder Mohawk, Kahnawake; Rohahes Iain Phillips.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Consideration of a Canadian Cultural Policy.

On motion of Paul Bonwick, it was agreed,--That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage retain the professional services of the following experts to assist in drafting the report on a Canadian Cultural Policy for Canada, for the period between April 1, 1999 and June 30, 1999, for the maximum amounts indicated:

Kevin Burns $400.00 $ 6,000.00

David Black $500.00 $ 7,500.00

Gaston Blais $500.00 $ 2,500.00

Colophon Group $360.00 $10,000.00

Peter Ernerk and Iain Phillips made opening statements and answered questions.

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
