THURSDAY JUNE 11, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Dennis Mills, Suzanne Tremblay and Mark Muise.

Acting Members present: Peter Stoffer for Wendy Lill.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gaston Blais, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canada Council of the Arts: Shirley Thomson, Director; François Colbert, Former Vice-Chairman and Special Advisor and Joanne Morrow, Director of the Arts Division. From the National Arts Centre: John Cripton, Director and CEO; Jean-Thérèse Riley, Chair, Board of Trustees; Brian Macdonald, Senior Artistic Advisor and Jean-Claude Marcus, Artistic Consultant.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of a Canadian cultural policy.

François Colbert, Shirley Thomson, Joanne Morrow, Jean-Thérèse Riley, Brian Macdonald and John Cripton made opening statements and with Jean-Pierre Marcus answered questions.

At 1:00 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
