THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1998

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 8:50 o’clock a.m., this day, in room

253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Pat O'Brien, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Deepak Obhrai, Suzanne Tremblay and Mark Muise.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

Participants: Round Table on the Broadcasting: Abraham Tagalik, Chair, Television Northern Canada; Perrin Beatty, President of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; Bruce Cowie, Executive Vice-President, Chief Operating Officer, Baton Broadcasting Corporation; Pierre Roy, President and Chief Executive Officer, "Les Réseaux-Premier Choix inc."; Kevin Shea, President and Chief Executive Officer, CAN-WEST Global System and Ken Stein, Senior Vice-President, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, Shaw Communications. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed the consideration of the Canadian Cultural Study and proceeded to host the Parliamentary Forum on Canadian Culture, International Trade and Technology in the year 2000.

The Chair made opening remarks.

The members and participants proceeded to a round table discussion on Broadcasting.

At 10:45 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:05 o'clock a.m., the sitting resumed.
