Tuesday, March 2, 1999

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Bonwick, Maurice Dumas, John Godfrey, Raymond Lavigne, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Ted McWhinney, Dennis Mills, Mark Muise, Suzanne Tremblay.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Sarmite Bulte, Reg Pagtakhan for Mauril Bélanger.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Luc Gagné, researcher.

Witnesses: As Individual: Dr. John Lien, Honorary Research Professor; Dr. Gordon Nelson, Professor of Geography and Regional Planning. From Canadian Heritage: Bruce Amos, Director General, Parks Canada.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, December 1, 1998, a study of Bill C-48, An Act respecting marine conservation areas.

Jon Lien and Gordon Nelson made opening statements and with Bruce Amos, answered questions.

At 12:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
