Meeting No. 61

Thursday, February 4, 1999

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:13 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Ted McWhinney and Suzanne Tremblay.

Acting Members present: Marlene Catterall for Joe Jordan; Mac Harb for Dennis Mills and Maurice Dumas for Caroline St-Hilaire.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Gaston Blais, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Board of Trustees of the National Arts Centre: David Hill, Member; Andrew Ogaranko, Member; Rosemarie Landry, Member; Carole McDougall, Member; Royce Frith, Member; Roberto Martella, Member; Jim Watson, Member; Yves Ducharme, Member and Jean Thérèse Riley, Chair. From the National Arts Centre: Elaine Calder, Interim Director and CEO.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Consideration of the National Arts Centre, Mandate, Resources, Management and Operations.

Jean Thérèse Riley made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:59 a.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 11:09 a.m. the sitting resumed.

At 12:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
