(Meeting No. 21)

TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 1998

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in room

253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Pat O'Brien, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Suzanne Tremblay and Mark Muise.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

Participants: Round Table on the Publishing: Mary Jo Anderson, Owner of Frog Hollow Books, Halifax; Sean Fordyce, Publisher, Voyageur Publishing; Hervé Foulon, President, "Éditions Hurtubise HMH Ltée"; Sylvia Fraser, Author; Micheline L’Espérance-Labelle, Shareholder, "Québecor DIL Multimédia"; Larry Stevenson, President and Chief Executive Officer, Chapters Inc.; Jack E. Stoddart, Chairman and Publisher, General Publishing Co. Ltd. and Scott McIntyre, President and Publisher, Douglas & McIntyre Ltd.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed the consideration of the Canadian Cultural Study and proceeded to host the Parliamentary Forum on Canadian Culture, International Trade and Technology in the year 2000.

The Chair made opening remarks.

The members and participants proceeded to a round table discussion on the Publishing.

The members and participants made opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:55 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
