(Meeting No. 61)

TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 1998

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 308 , West Block, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles Caccia, Rick Casson, Yvon Charbonneau, Roger Gallaway, Bill Gilmour, John Herron, Joe Jordan, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, David Pratt.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Environment Industry Association: Colin Isaacs, Chair, National Policy Committee; Rebecca Last, Director of Programs & Policy. From the Canadian Waste Alliance: Michael Pullen, President. From Stablex Canada Inc.: Roger S. Gibb, Vice-President and General Manager. From the "Groupe des industries de l'environnement du Québec": Serge Cabana, President; Robert Dubé, Policy and Regulations Committee.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-32, An Act respecting pollution prevention and the protection of the environment and human health in order to contribute to sustainable development. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Wednesday, May 14, 1998, Meeting No. 53)

The Chair called Clause 1.

Colin Isaacs, Michael Pullen, Roger S. Gibb, Serge Cabana and Robert Dubé made opening statements and, with Rebecca Last answered questions.

At 11:05 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
