THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 1998
The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:18 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles Caccia, Yvon Charbonneau, Roger Gallaway, Bill Gilmour, John Herron, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan.
Acting Members present: Rey Pagtakhan for David Pratt.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association: Richard Paton, President and Chief Executive Officer; Gordon Lloyd, Vice-President, Technical Affairs. From the Canadian Manufacturers of Chemical Specialties Association: Shannon Coombs, Director, Government Relations; Mike Welling, 2nd Vice-President, Board of Directors. From the Canadian Vehicule Manufacturers' Association: Mark Nantais, President; Bruce Reid, Director, Office of the Environment, General Motors Ltd; Lisa Kozma, Office of the General Counsel, Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd.
The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-32, An Act respecting pollution prevention and the protection of the environment and human health in order to contribute to sustainable development. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Wednesday, May 14, 1998, Meeting No. 53)
The Chair called Clause 1.
Richard Paton, Shannon Coombs, Mike Welling, Mark Nantais made opening statements and, with Gordon Lloyd, Bruce Reid , Lisa Kozma, answered questions.
At 10:58 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
