MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 40)

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 1998

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:38 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Gar Knutson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Rick Casson, Yvon Charbonneau, Bill Gilmour, Joe Jordan, Gar Knutson, Rick Laliberté, David Pratt.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee): Brian Craik, Director, Federal Relations; Alan Penn, Scientific Adviser.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its consideration of the enforcement of the provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and the enforcement of the pollution prevention provisions of the Fisheries Act including related regulations and administrative agreements (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Thursday, February 5, 1998, Meeting no. 29).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:07 o’clock p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

The Committee discussed a draft report.

At 5:19 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
