WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:36 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Gar Knutson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Bernard Bigras, Rick Casson, Yvon Charbonneau, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, David Pratt.

Acting Members present: Peter Stoffer for Rick Laliberté.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sonya Dakers, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian District Energy Association: John Stephenson, President. From the International District Energy Association: John Grey, Past President. From the "Corporation de chauffage urbain de Montréal": Yves Blanc, Director general. From the Oujé Bougoumou Cree Nation: Abel Bosum, Chief. From the Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Ann MacLean, Chair, Working Group on Community Energy System. From the Department of Natural Resources: Frank Campbell, Director, CANMET Energy Technology Centre; Michael Wiggin, Manager, Community Energy Technologies.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its consideration of District Energy (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Thursday, December 4, 1997, Meeting no 26).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:48 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:28 o’clock p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 6:13 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
