THURSDAY, MAY 14, 1998

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:23 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Charles Caccia, Yvon Charbonneau, Roger Gallaway, Bill Gilmour, Gar Knutson.

Acting Member present: Claude Bachand for Gérard Asselin.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Environment Canada: Glenn Allard, Director General, Special Projects; Nadine Levin, Senior Policy Advisor, CEPA Office; Steve Mongrain, Policy Advisor, CEPA Office; Michael Wong, Manager, CEPA Office; Duncan Cameron, Legal Services. From Health Canada: Tony Myers, Co-ordinator, Special Projects, Bureau of Chemical Hazards; Jennifer Rae, Senior Biologist.

 

The Order of Reference dated Tuesday April 28, 1998, being read as follows:

Ordered, -- That Bill C-32, An Act respecting pollution prevention and the protection of the environment and human health in order to contribute to sustainable development, be referred to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

The Chair called Clause 1.

Glenn Allard, Tony Myers and Jennifer Rae made an opening statement and with Duncan Cameron, Nadine Levin and Steve Mongrain answered questions.

At 11:52 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
