WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:36 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Gar Knutson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles Caccia, Aileen Carroll, Rick Casson, Yvon Charbonneau, Bill Gilmour, John Herron, Joe Jordan, Gar Knutson, David Pratt.

 

Acting Members present: Clifford Lincoln for Karen Kraft Sloan; Peter Stoffer for Rick Laliberté.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Research Officer.

 

Appearing: The Honourable Christine Stewart, Minister of Environment.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its consideration of the enforcement of the provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and the enforcement of the pollution prevention provisions of the Fisheries Act including related regulations and administrative agreements (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Thursday, February 5, 1998, Meeting no. 29).

 

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:10 o'clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 4:20 o'clock p.m., the sitting resumed, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.

 

At 6:00 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
