The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:16 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 209, West Block, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles Caccia, Chuck
Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Yvon Charbonneau, Bill Gilmour, John Herron, Joe Jordan, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Rick Laliberté, David Pratt.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Monique Hébert, Bill Murray, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Conservation Council of New Brunswick: Juli Abouchar, Executive Director. From the Canadian Environmental Defence Fund: Burkhard Mausberg, Executive Director. From Friends of the Oldman River: Martha Kostuch, Vice-president.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the harmonization initiative of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Monday, October 20, 1997, Meeting no. 2)
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
The Committee discussed its future business.
It was agreed,--That the Committee, during the weeks of November 3 and November 17, hold hearings on global climate change with regard to Canadian preparations for the Kyoto Conference in December and that witnesses be called from the Office of the Auditor General, Environment Canada and Natural Resources Canada.
At 11:53 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
