TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10 ,1998

 

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:03 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Gar Knutson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles Caccia, Chuck Cadman, Rick Casson, Yvon Charbonneau, Bill Gilmour, John Herron, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Rick Laliberté.

 

Acting Members present: Clifford Lincoln for Roger Gallaway; Gurbax Malhi for David Pratt.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

 

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Brian Emmett, Commissioner, Environment and Sustainable Development; Wayne Cluskey, Principal, Audit Operations. From Environment Canada: Ian Glen, Deputy Minister; François Guimont, Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Protection Service; John J. Myslicki, Chief, Transboundary Movement Division, Hazardous Waste Branch. From Revenue Canada: Earle Warren, Acting Director General, Major Project Design and Development Directorate, Customs and Trade Administration Branch.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its consideration of Chapter 4 of the April 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Control of the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Wednesday, October 29, 1997, Meeting no. 8).

 

Brian Emmett, Ian Glen, François Guimont made opening statements and, with Earle Warren, Wayne Cluskey, John J. Myslicki, answered questions.

 

At 11:18 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
