MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 62

Tuesday, June 1st, 1999

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Co-Chair, Dale Johnston, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Hec Clouthier, Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Dale Johnston, John O'Reilly, The Hon. Andy Scott, Maurice Vellacott and Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member(s) present: Raymonde Folco for Larry McCormick and Jocelyne Girard-Bujold for Bernard Bigras.

Other Member(s) present: Carolyn Bennett.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the "Syndicat national des travailleurs et travailleuses des pâtes et papiers de Kénogami Inc.": Elie Cyr, President. From the Federation of Paper and Forest Workers: Sylvain Parent, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a study on " Older Workers"

Carolyn Bennett moved that, - The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities be autorised to sit twice this week to consider its draft report June 1st at 1:00 p.m. and to hear Ministers at 11:00 a.m. June 3rd.

After debate the question being put on the motion it was adopted.

At 11:12 a.m. the Chair, Albina Guarnieri assumed the Chair.

Elie Cyr and Sylvain Parent made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:16 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 12:19 p.m. the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to discuss its future business.

It was agreed that the Committee met Monday at 3:30 p.m. to consider reports and that the Chair, in consultation with the Clerk be authorised to make the arrangements to provide dinner.

It was agreed that the Sub-Committee on Child be authorised to sit twice this week to consider its draft report and to hear American experts in the field of children with disabilities.

At 12:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
