MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 44

Wednesday, November 18, 1998

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 4:04 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Claudette Bradshaw, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Hec Clouthier, Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Jean Dubé, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, John O'Reilly, Maurice Vellacott, Bryon Wilfert.

Associate Member present: Wendy Lill.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

 

It was agreed that Barbara Schober be the winner of the 1998 Centennial Flame Award.

It was agreed, -That the deadline for application for the 1999 Centennial Flame Research Award be April 30, 1999 and that the amount of the award for 1999 be $3000.

It was agreed, - That a press release be issued inviting candidates for the 1999 Centennial Flame Research Award; that the press release be posted on the Committee’s Internet site; and that it also be prepared in alternate media formats.

 

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 108(1) and 108(2) four Sub-Committees be created on: youth at risk; older workers; rural issues and the status of persons with disabilities.

It was agreed, - That the Sub-Committees be each composed of nine (9) members or associate members of which five (5) shall be government members and four (4) shall be opposition members, to be named following the usual consultations with the whips.

It was agreed, - That each Sub-Committee present to the Committee their workplan, an outline of the initiatives they want to consider.

 

It was agreed, - That the Committee pursue their study of Chapter 16 (Human Resources Development - Management of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General.

 

At 4:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
