Meeting No. 50

Tuesday, March 9, 1999

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Hec Clouthier, Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick, John O'Reilly, The Hon. Andy Scott and Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Witness(es):From Ibis Research Inc.: Alan Breakspear, President & CEO; From Signals 9 Solutions: Philip Attfield, President & CEO.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of Chapter 16 (Human Resources Development - Management of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (See minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, November 4th, 1998)

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:24 the sitting was suspended.

At 4:30 the sitting resumed.

John Godfrey presented to the Committee the workplan of the Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk.

It was agreed, That pursuant to Standing Order 108(1) and 108(2), the Sub-Committee on the Children & Youth at Risk be empowered to send for persons, papers and records, to receive evidence, to sit no more than once a week, unless otherwise authorized by the Committee, during a time when the Committee is not sitting.

At 4:40 the Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business.

It was agreed that after the S.I.N. study the Committee study the issue of older workers.

At 4:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
