Wednesday, March 17, 1999
The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 3:43 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, John Godfrey, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, The Hon. Andy Scott and Bryon Wilfert.
Acting Member(s) present: Pat O'Brien for John O'Reilley
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of Chapter 16 (Human Resources Development - Management of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (See minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, November 4th, 1998)
The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.
By unanimous consent, it was moved, That the Ministers of Human Resources Development, Labour and the Secretary of State (Children and Youth) be requested to appear before the Committee after March 25, 1999, when the Reports on Plans and Priorities are tabled in the House, but not later than May 14, 1999, to address the Estimates for the fiscal year of 1999-2000."
After debate the question being put on the motion it was agreed to.
It was agreed, That the Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk request from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities an interim budget of $250.00 to reimburse the expenses of the out of town witnesses it proposes to hear before the end of March 1999.
After debate it was agreed that the Chair explore with the Liaison Committee the possibility of approving a budget to cover the expenses of the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities, of the Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk and of the Committee's future study on older workers.
At 4:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
