Tuesday, March 10, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 209, West Block, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Rob Anders, Caroline Bennett, Claudette Bradshaw, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Paul Crête, Nick Discepola, Christiane Gagnon, Dale Johnston and Bob Nault.

 

Acting Members present: Yvon Godin for Libby Davies, at 12:14 p.m. John Cannis for Brenda Chamberlain.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kevin B. Kerr, Bill Young and Sandra Harder, Research Officers.

 

Witnesses: From the Department of Human Resources Development: Mel Cappe, Deputy Minister, HRDC and Chair, Canada Employment Insurance Commission; Norine Smith,
Assistant Deputy Minister, Insurance; Diane Carroll, Director, Employment Insurance Policy Directorate; Ken Kerr, Director, Policy and Design, Labour Market Directorate.

 

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Orders 32(5) and 108(2), the committee proceeded to the consideration of the 1997 Employment Insurance Monitoring and Assessment Report.

 

Mel Cappe made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:59 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
