Wednesday, March 25, 1998
The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 4:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Rob Anders, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Jean Dubé, Dale Johnston, Bob Nault and Byron Wilfert.
Acting Member present: Yves Rocheleau for Stéphan Tremblay.
Associate Member present: Pat Martin.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Bill Young and Sandra Harder, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Dehydrators Association: Brent MacFarland, Director, Garry Benoit, Executive Director. From the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers: Elizabeth Mitchell, Lawyer; Denis Bradet, Lawyer; Michael A. Church, Lawyer. From the Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Sharon Glover, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Membership; John Lewis, Associate, Heenan Blaikie. The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (Part 1) and the Corporations and Labour Unions Returns Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, March 24, 1998, Meeting No. 19).
Brent MacFarland made an opening statement and with Garry Benoit answered questions.
Michael Church, Elizabeth Mitchell and Dennis Bradet made an opening statement and answered questions.
Sharon Glover made an opening statement and with John Lewis answered questions.
