Meeting No. 37

Thursday, May 14, 1998

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:09 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 308, West Block, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Rob Anders, Caroline Bennett, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Paul Crête, Christiane Gagnon, Dale Johnston and Byron Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Bill Young and Sandra Harder, Research Officers.

Witnesses: Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal: David P Silcox, Chairperson and CEO; Elizabeth MacPherson, Executive Director & General Counsel. Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety: Dr. P. K. Abeytunga, Vice President and Director General. Canada Labour Relations Board: Paul Lordon, Chairman; Jocelyne Cormier, Acting Executive Director; Johanne Tremblay, Senior Legal Counsel.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference from the House of Commons dated February 26, 1998 in relation to the Main Estimates for the Fiscal year ending March 31, 1999 and, pursuant to Standing Order 81(7), its consideration of the Report on Plans and Priorities. (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence, Tuesday, May 5, 1998, Meeting No. 34).

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business.

At 11:14 o’clock a.m. the Chairman called Votes 25, 30 and 35 under HUMAN RESSOURCES DEVELOPMENT.

David Silcox, P.K. Abeytunga and Paul Lordon made an opening statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:00 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
