Tuesday, May 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Reg Alcock, Rob Anders, Claudette Bradshaw, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Libby Davies, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick and Byron Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Antoine Dubé for Paul Crête, Sue Barnes for Robert Nault, Claude Drouin for Nick Discepola, Ovid Jackson for Albina Guarnieri.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Bill Young and Sandra Harder, Research Officers.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference from the House of Commons dated February 26, 1998 in relation to the Main Estimates for the Fiscal year ending March 31, 1999 and, pursuant to Standing Order 81(7), its consideration of the Report on Plans and Priorities. (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence, Tuesday, May 5, 1998, Meeting No. 34).

The Order of Reference from the House of Commons dated Thursday, February 26, 1998 in relation to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999 being read as follows:

That Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 under HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT be referred to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

The Chair called Vote 1 under HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT.

Diane Ablonczy moved, --That Vote 1 (Corporate Services Programs/Program Expenditures) for Human Resources Development Canada in the amount of $82,636,000 be reduced by $1 million to $81,636,000.
