MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
Meeting No. 11

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1997

The Standing Committee on Human Resources and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Reg Alcock, Rob Anders, Carolyn Bennett, Claudette Bradshaw, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Jean Dubé, Christiane Gagnon, Albina Guarnieri, Larry McCormick, Robert Nault, Stéphan Tremblay and Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: At 10:00 o’clock a.m. Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral for Paul Crête.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: William Young, Research Officer.

Appearing: The Honourable Pierre S. Pettigrew.

Witnesses: From the Department of Human Resources Development: Mel Cappe, Deputy Minister (HRDC); Hy Braiter, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Service Delivery.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Departmental priorities and overview of expenditure plans..

The Minister made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

On motion of Jean Dubé, it was agreed, -- That the deadline for applications for the 1998 Centennial Flame Research Award be April 30, 1998 and that the amount of the award for 1998 be $2,500.

On motion of Libby Davies, it was agreed, -- That a press release be issued inviting candidates for the 1998 Centennial Flame Research Award; that the press release be posted on the Committee’s Internet site; and that it also be prepared in Braille.

It was agreed, --That the Committee will meet on Thursday, December 4, 1997 in the afternoon to discuss a draft report on student aid.

At 9:59 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
