MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 41

Wednesday, October 7, 1998

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2).

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bernard Bigras, Claudette Bradshaw, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, John Godfrey, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick, Maurice Vellacott, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Ian Murray for Hec Cloutier.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder, Bill Young, Research Officers.

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Chair of the Committee.

Denis Coderre moved, -That Albina Guarnieri be elected Chair of this Committee.

The question being put on the said motion, it was agreed to.

Accordingly, Albina Guarnieri took the Chair.

The Chair called for a motion to elect the Vice-Chair.

On motion of Diane Ablonczy seconded by Claudette Bradshaw, it was agreed, -That Dale Johnston be elected Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

On motion of Brenda Chamberlain seconded by Claudette Bradshaw, it was agreed, -That Byron Wilfert be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Committee November 4, 1997 respecting substantive motions Diane Ablonczy tabled notice of the following motion:

"That the Committee agrees, when a Private Member`s Bill or motion is referred to the Committee, to put the Bill on its agenda at the earliest possible time in order to invite the Member to explain the Bill or motion to the Committee and to decide on its work plan"

At 3:44 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
