Meeting No. 09

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1997

The Standing Committee on Standing Committee on Human Resources and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 9:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 308, West Block, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Rob Anders, Carolyn Bennet, Claudette Bradshaw, Brenda Chamberlain, Libby Davies, Christiane Gagnon, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick, Stéphan Tremblay, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Raymond Bonin for Robert Nault, Maurice Dumas for Paul Crête, Diane St-Jacques for Jean Dubé.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: William Young and Sandra Harder, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Federal Superannuates National Association: Keith Patterson, Deputy Executive Director, Research. From One Voice – Canadian Seniors Network: Ivan Hale, National Secretary and Vice-President for North America International Federation on Ageing (IFA). From Frontier College: John O'Leary, President. As an individual: Richard Shillington. From Caledon Institute of Social Policy: Ken Battle, President.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference the Committee resumed a series of briefings on the department assigned to it. Today's session being on children, youth and seniors issues. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 28, 1997, Meeting No. 4).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:27 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
