The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Hec Clouthier, Paul Crête, Jean Dubé, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, John O'Reilly, The Hon. Andy Scott, Maurice Vellacott, Bryon Wilfert.

Witnesses : From the Advanced Card Technology Association of Canada: Catherine A. Johnston, President and CEO. From the Information and Privacy Commissioner : David Flaherty, Information and Privacy Commissioner; Ann Cavoukian, Information and Privacy Commissioner.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of Chapter 16 (Human Resources Development - Management of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (See minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, November 4th, 1998)

David Flaherty, Ann Cavoukian, Rita Reynolds, Catherine Johnston and Jim Savary made a statement and answered questions.
