MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. (5)

Tuesday, October 28, 1997

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 10:02 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade, the Chair, George Baker, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: George Baker, Yvan Bernier, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gary Lunn, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O’Brien, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer..

Acting Members present: Stan Dromisky for Gar Knutson, John Maloney for Paul Steckle, Dan McTeague for Sophia Leung.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Claude Emery and Alan Nixon, Research Officers.

The Committee proceeded to discuss future business.

It was agreed, - That, the Committee approve the proposed budget of $10,000 for video conferencing and witness expenses, and that the Chair be authorized to present the said budget to the Liaison Committee.

It was agreed, - That each Committee member be allowed to have one staff person present at in camera meetings.

It was agreed, - That the Clerk of the Committee be authorized to distribute documents, to the members of the Committee in the language received, and to ensure that such documents are translated and distributed as promptly as possible.

It was agreed, - That the Steering Committee be authorized to organize and plan for the Committee travel to Atlantic Canada.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to ask the Minister of Fisheries, that a sub-committee of the Standing Committee of Fisheries and Oceans be allowed to participate as part of the Canadian delegation who will attend the meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), which will be held in Madrid, Spain from November 14, 1997 to November 21, 1997.

It was agreed, - That if the Committee did not receive permission to travel to Madrid as part of the delegation, that the Committee seek an Order of Reference to send a sub-committee of the Standing Committee to travel to the ICCAT meeting in Spain, to act as observers.

At 11:01 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
