MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 52

Tuesday, November 3, 1998

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee Committee present: John Cummins, Claude Drouin, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gar Knutson, Gary Lunn, Bill Matthews, Carmen Provenzano, Yves Rocheleau, Lou Sekora, Paul Steckle, and Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of Prince Edward Island and Nunavut Fisheries issues.

It was agreed, - That the Committee meet in public.

At 9:23 o'clock a.m. the Committee met in public.

Gar Knutson moved, - That the Committee dedicate one meeting to talk about confidentiality of the Committee and preventing reports from being leaked. After debate, thereon, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived.

Wayne Easter moved, - That the Committee invite the General Counsel to prepare a brief on what remedies are available to a Committee when their reports are leaked to the press.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed to meet in camera.

At 9:46 o'clock a.m. the Committee met in camera.

It was agreed, - That the Vice-Chair be authorised to write the Speaker, out lining the problems the Committee has had in receiving timely translations of their reports.

At 10:10 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
