Meeting No. 48
Tuesday, October 6, 1998
The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair and two Vice-Chair, pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and (2).
Member(s) of the Committee present: Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gar Knutson, Gary Lunn, Keith Martin, Bill Matthews, Carmen Provenzano, Yves Rocheleau, Lou Sekora and Peter Stoffer.
Acting Member(s) present: Sarmite Bulte for Joe Comuzzi; Bernard Patry for Paul Steckle; Rey Pagtakhan for Lawrence O'Brien.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1), election of the Chair.
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Chair.
Lou Sekora moved, - That Charles Hubbard be elected Chair of the Committee. It was agreed, by a show of hands: Yeas:15, Nays: 1
Accordingly, Charles Hubbard was declared duly elected Chair of the Committee and took the Chair.
On motion of Lou Sekora, it was agreed, - That Carmen Provenzano be elected government Vice-Chair of the Committee.
On motion of Gary Lunn, it was agreed, - That John Cummins be elected opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Gary Lunn moved, - That, the Chair, the two Vice-Chairs and one Member from the Bloc Quebecois, New Democratic Party, and the Progressive Conservative do compose the sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure. After debate, there, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived.
Gary Knutson moved, - That, the Chair, the two Vice-Chairs, the Parliamentary Secretary and one Member from the Bloc Quebecois, New Democratic Party, and the Progressive Conservative do compose the sub-committee on Agenda and Procedure. After debate, thereon, the question being put on the motion, it was agreed thereon.
At 4:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
