The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:34 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade, the Chair, George Baker, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: : George Baker, Yvan Bernier, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gar Knutson, M. Sophia Leung, Bill Matthews, Carmen Provenzano, Paul Steckle and Peter Stoffer.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Alan Nixon, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From Pacific Salmon Foundation: Rich Chapple, Executive Director. From the Community Fisheries Development Centre: John Young, Director of Intergovernmental. From West Coast Sustainability Association: Dan Edwards, President. From Campbell River Community Fisheries Committee: Ted Martin, Co-Chair. From North Island Fisheries Initiative: Don Fish. As an Individual: Russ Helberg, Mayor of Port Hardy, Board Member of Coastal Communities Network.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of West Coast Fisheries.
Rich Chapple, John Young, Russ Helberg and Dan Edwards made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.
By unanimous consent, Gary Lunn tabled a Memorandum to the Minister of Fisheries regarding Management of Sub-Area 0 Turbot Fishery.
Ted Martin, Dan Fish and Rick Frey made opening statements and answered questions.
On motion of Wayne Easter, it was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to raise the matter with the Liaison Committee of the delay in receiving the unedited copy of the
committee’s evidence.
At 5:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
