MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 35)

TUESDAY, MARCH 31, 1998

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:40 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 306, WB, the Chair, George Baker, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: George Baker, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gar Knutson, Sophia Leung, Bill Matthews, Carmen Provenzano, Paul Steckle and Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: John Gero, Director General, Trade Policy Bureau II, Services, Investment and Intellectual Property; from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Marshall Moffat, Director, Economic Analysis Policy

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider the subject matter of multi lateral agreement on investment.

John Gero and Marshall Moffat both made opening statements and answered questions.

On motion of Wayne Easter, it was agreed, - That the budget of $30,000 for the period from April 1, 1998 to June 30, 1998 be approved, and that the Chair be authorized to present the said budget to the Liaison Committee.

On motion of Peter Stoffer, it was agreed, - That the Second Report entitled "The West Coast Report" be adopted as amended.

At 5:23 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
