The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Chuck Cadman, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, Richard Marceau, John McKay, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.

Acting Member present: Eric Lowther for Jim Abbott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witness(es):From the Victims of Violence Centre for Missing Children: Gary Rosenfeldt, Executive Director; From the Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime: Steve Sullivan, Executive Director; From the Volunteer Canada: Paddy Bowen, Executive Director; From the Churchill Park Family Care Society: Noreen Murphy, Executive Director; From the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies: Kim Pate, Executive Director; From the Canada Family Action Coalition: Peter Stock, National Affairs Director.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated Tuesday, October 6, 1998, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-284, An Act to amend the Criminal Records Act and the Canadian Human Rights Act (offences against children). (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 1, 1998, Meeting No. 106)

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions

At 10:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:08 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 12:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
