MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

MEETING No. 38

Thursday, MARCH 12, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in camera at 11:16 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Nick Discepola, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, Jack Ramsay and Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Member present: Carmen Provenzano for Sheila Finestone.

In attendance : From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon and Nancy Holmes, Research Officers.

The Committee discussed its future business.

It was agreed, -- That the witness list for Bill S-5 be adopted as amended.

It was agreed, -- That the witness list for the examination of the Estimates be adopted.

It was agreed, -- That the issues paper entitled "Victims in the Criminal Justice System" be adopted.

It was agreed, -- That the content of the letter from the Chair on the Victims’ Bill of Rights be adopted.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee hold a planning session on Bill C-3, Thursday, March 19, 1998.

At 12:00 noon, the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
