MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

MEETING No. 60

Thursday, APRIL 30, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Nick Discepola, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, Richard Marceau, John McKay et Jack Ramsay.

In attendance: : From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the National Parole Board: Willie Gibbs, President; Renée Collette, Senior Vice-President; Gertrude Lavigne, Counsel; Marc Séguin, Director, Corporate Services.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference of Thursday, February 26, 1998, relating to the Main Estimates for 1998-99 (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, April 20, 1998, Meeting No.50).

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Vote 25, under SOLICITOR GENERAL.

Willie Gibbs made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
