MEETING No. 59

Wednesday, APRIL 29, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Nick Discepola, Sheila Finestone, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, Peter Mancini, Richard Marceau, Jack Ramsay et Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Member present: Randy White for Paul E. Forseth.

In attendance: : From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Correctional Service of Canada: Ole Ingstrup, Commissioner; Richard Clair, Corporate Secretary.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference of Thursday, February 26, 1998, relating to the Main Estimates for 1998-99 (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, April 20, 1998, Meeting No.50).

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Votes 15 and 20, under SOLICITOR GENERAL.

Ole Ingstrup made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
