The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:45 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Eleni Bakopanos, Chuck Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay and Jacques Saada.

Acting Member(s) present: Randy White for Jim Abbott, Richard Harris for John Reynolds, Pierre Brien for Michel Bellehumeur, Antoine Dubé for Richard Marceau.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marilyn Pilon, Researcher.

Pursuant to Standing Order 68(4)(a) and the Order of Reference dated Thursday, October 30, 1997, the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights resumed consideration of the Criminal Code impaired driving provisions. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Wednesday, February 3, 1999, Meeting No. 109)

Marjolaine Giroux made an opening statement, and along with Lévis Talbot, answered questions.

Sharleen Verhulst made an opening statement, and along with Jennifer Dickson, answered questions.

Doug Abernethy made an opening statement and answered questions.

Kenneth Roffel made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
