MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 85

Tuesday, October 6, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2).

Member(s) of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Michel Bellehumeur, Chuck Cadman, Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Derek Lee, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, Peter Mancini and John Reynolds.

Acting Member(s) present: Ovid Jackson for Jacques Saada, David Pratt for Reg Alcock, Larry McCormick for John McKay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marilyn Pilon; Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior analyst.

The Clerk presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of Ovid Jackson, seconded by John Reynolds, it was agreed, -- That Shaughnessy Cohen do take the Chair of the Committee as Chairperson.

The Chairperson took the Chair.

On Motion of Paul DeVillers, it was agreed, -- That John Maloney be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

On Motion of John Reynolds, it was agreed, -- That Chuck Cadman be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

 

At 9:16 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
