The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met in camera at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Marlene Catterall, Yvon Godin, Michel Guimond, Jay Hill, Joe Jordan, Paul Harold Macklin, Carolyn Parrish, Geoff Regan, Jacques Saada and Tony Tirabassi.
Acting Members present: Sophia Leung for Paul Macklin from 12:32 to 13:00; Beth Phinney for John Richardson; Leon Benoit for Garry Breitkreuz; James Moore for Cheryl Gallant; Jason Kenney for Randy White; Robert Lanctôt for Pierre Brien.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, research officer.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the House of Thursday, February 7, 2002, the Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business with respect to the question of privilege raised on January 31, 2002 by the Member for Portage--Lisgar concerning the charge against the Minister of National Defence of making misleading statements in the House (see Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 7, 2002, Meeting No. 43).
At 11:21 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 11:23 a.m., the sitting resumed.
The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference.
At 11:39 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 11:46 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in a televised session.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the House of Thursday, February 7, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of the question of privilege raised on January 31, 2002 by the Member for Portage--Lisgar concerning the charge against the Minister of National Defence of making misleading statements in the House (see Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 7, 2002, Meeting No. 43).
Yvon Godin moved, - That Claude Laverdure, Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minsiter and Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet on Foreign Affairs and Defence Policy be called as a witness to the Procedure and House Affairs Committee.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived on the following recorded division:
