Thursday, May 31, 2001

The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Rick Borotsik, Marlene Catterall, Cheryl Gallant, Michel Guimond, Joe Jordan, Derek Lee, Paul Macklin, Geoff Regan, John Richardson, Jacques Saada and Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Members present: Randy White for John Reynolds; Dale Johnston for Richard Harris; Bill Blaikie for Yvon Godin.

Other Member present: Joe Fontana.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, research officer.

Appearing: From Public Works and Government Services Canada: The Hon. Alfonso L. Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada.

Witnesses: From Public Works and Government Services Canada: Michael G. Nurse, Associate Deputy Minister; René Crête, Director General, Parliamentary Precinct - Real Property Services Branch. From the Parliamentary Buildings Advisory Council: The Hon. John Fraser, Chair; Mary Anne Griffith, Member; Sheila-Marie Cook, Secretary.

Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(3)(a)(i) - consideration of the status of renovations to the Parliament Buildings.

The Hon. Alphonso Gagliano made a statement.

The Hon. John Fraser made a statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

Pursuant to the order from the House of Thursday, May 17, 2001, the Committee considered a draft report on the membership of a Special committee on non-medical use of drugs.

On motion of Rick Borotsik, it was agreed, - That the draft report be adopted as the Committee's report to the House and that the Chair present the Report to the House.

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
