Meeting No. 17

Thursday, May 3, 2001

The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met in camera at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Marlene Catterall, Michel Guimond, Joe Jordan, Derek Lee, Paul Macklin, Carolyn Parrish, Jacques Saada and Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Members present: Reg Alcock for John Richardson; Cheryl Gallant for John Reynolds; Bill Blaikie for Yvon Godin; Peter MacKay for Rick Borotsik.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, research officer.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the House of March 19, 2001, question of privilege raised on March 14, 2001 by the Member for Provencher regarding the Department of Justice briefing the media on Bill C-15, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to amend other Acts, prior to it being tabled in the House of Commons and at the exclusion of Members of Parliament.

The Committee considered a draft report.

Peter MacKay gave notice of motion to send for Mr. Mel Capp, Clerk of the Privy Council Office.

At 12:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
