MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 3)

Tuesday, October 21, 1997

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:37 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Antoine Dubé, Tony Ianno, Francine Lalonde, Walt lastewka, Eric Lowther, Ian Murray, Janko Peric, Charlie Power, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

Associate Member present: Hélène Alarie.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Antony Jackson and Daniel Brassard, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry:Timothy Garrard, Chief Information Officer;
Peter St.Germain, Director, Computing Development and Operations.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a study of the Report of the Auditor General, Chapter 12 "Information Technology: preparedness for Year 2000".

Timothy Garrard made a statement and answered questions.

After debate, on motion ofWalt Lastewka, it was agreed, that the Chair of this Committee write a letter to the Chairs of the other Standing Committees concerning the urgency and importance of the year 2000 computer system requirements and the need for each committee to review their respective departments.

At 5:08 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
