MINUTES OF PROCEEDING (Meeting No. 14) WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1997 The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:34 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding. Members of the Committee present: Tony Ianno, Marlene Jennings, Francine Lalonde, Eric Lowther, Janko Peric, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan. In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Antony Jackson, Research Officer. Witnesses: As an individual: Hudson Janisch, Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. From Call-Net Enterprises Inc.: Robert P. Boron, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Counsel and Secretary; Jonathan Daniels, Regulatory Counsel; and Jean Brazeau, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs. From AT&T Canada Enterprises Inc.: Peter Barnes, Vice-President, Public Affairs; Janet Yale, Senior Vice President, External Affairs; and Kirsten Embree, Associate Lawyer, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt (Barristers & Solicitors). From the Canadian Bar Association: Mairi S. MacDonald, Chair, National Media and Communications Law Section; Tamra L. Thomson, Director, Legislation and Law Reform. Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, November 25, 1997, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Telecommunications Act and the Teleglobe Canada Reorganization and Divestiture Act. On Clause 1 Hudson Janisch from the University of Toronto, made a statement and answered questions. Robert P. Boron made a statement and, with the other witnesses from Call-Net Enterprises Inc., answered questions. Peter Barnes made a statement and, with the other witnesses from AT&T Canada Enterprises Inc., answered questions. Tamra Thomson and Mairi S. MacDonald, from the Canadian Bar Association, each made a statement and answered questions. At 5:36 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair. |
